Twisted Fashion is an independent initiative based in Coventry with its origins in a project which was part of the Youth for Fair Trade programme (managed by Coventry Cathedral) and part-funded by DFID (Department for International Development). We aim to reduce injustice in the fashion industry by promoting Fair Trade fashion to consumers. The newly established project brings together different actors within the ethical fashion industry and provides a platform to share information and ideas to increase the awareness of Fair Trade and ethical fashion amongst the consumers. Most people are aware of Fair Trade Food and how this helps farmers in developing countries to lead fulfilling lives with the insurance of a steady income. But maybe Fair Trade clothing is not as well known or understood yet. Buying Fair Trade clothing means that the producers of the material have been guaranteed a fair price and that no illegal child labour or sweatshops have been used in its production. Coventry is already classified as a Fairtrade City by the Fairtrade Foundation, so it is the perfect location for the launch of this exciting new project.
